Fond Farewell to Summer
Ahhh we turned our furnace on for the first time of the year. This act made me pause to remember the summer past.
My fondest memories of this summer are the trip my family and my sister’s family took together to Kitchener. We had a great time and were lucky that there was a blues festival going on the same weekend we were there that added an extra gritty flavour that was greatly appreciated.
In fact it was called the B3 festival for Blues, Brews and Bar-B-ques which meant the flavour was Cajun with hickory and lots of malty beverages to wash it all down with.
Like many great trips this one begins and ends with a trip by. . .

train.

Oh my god!! we are tourists and really look the part (very scary)

We took a walk to Waterloo home of the brick brewery.

Alan working the pump. They give free samples too. We left feeling very happy.

A zydaco band from toronto on the main stage set up on the main street in downtown Kitchener.

Menonite farmers markets are abundant in the area. Yumm

Beutifull onions.

Apple fritters for Jake.

Tatoos of trains

There is a science musuem for children.

and adults.

Emma got a new face.

Only so much of a blues festival you can take. On our way home on the train it was delayed. This inconvenience is common now as the rails are owned by Canadian Pacific and there is no money in moving people anymore (sigh). We had several delays waiting at the train station but passed the time watching trains go by and flattening pennies on the rails. Something I used to do with my grandfather.
Jake stayed awake for the whole ride back even though it was past midnight by the time we got home.

blues festival - mmm - my favorite!!! We have a great blues bar in Lincoln named The Zoo Bar. It was a favorite haunt in my college years. And, it drew in all the great acts from Chicago, Texas and California. Seems the zoo was a favorite amongst favorites - wall to wall hot sweaty bodies - smoke - long necks. YEARS HAVE PAST!
Your kids are adorable. Especially the sleeping photo. Emma is beautiful, so is Jake. I am worried about the poor baby abandoned at the railroad!
B3 Festival sounds fabulous - and that was one beautiful day it appears!
Thanks for sharing! — OCTOBER 12, Mike!

Thanks for stopping by. Mmmm sweaty blues clubs. Thanks about the kids. Just so you know Emma is actually my niece (or as I call her a rental child) Though she seems closer to us than that since her and I have lived in the same building all her life.
My sister’s family live in unit one and we live in unit 2. My kids are Jake and Kyle.
What is the significance of October 12th?
M ike…
Since my friend Amy hasn’t responded yet although October 12th is long gone, I’ll answer for her.
October 12th was the release date of the Joomla! CMS 1.5 Beta Test Version (www.joomla.org). And here in the U.S., it used to be a holiday called Columbus Day, which occurs on the second Monday of October.
And coincidentally, it is my daughter’s birthday.
P.S. Nice site
Ahh. . . of course. Thanks for stopping by Harry. I’m only a part time computer nerd and was probably not counting the days as closely as Amy was.
Howzit Mike!
Dig your blog! Over here in SA blues is not such a big thing, so we dont have any blues bars or festivals(that i know of) We do however have a ton of jazz festivals. Not my scene though.

Want to know if I can use a few of your photos? - nothing with your children tho - just maybe the Mennonite shot & the train.
