While doing a degree in theatre and English at the University of Toronto, John was given a guitar as a gift and never looked back.  John has been a member of several musical ensembles, including acoustic guitar and vocal groups, hard rock bar bands, and a children’s music pop quartet.  He is a graduate of the Rainbow Songs teacher training program. He has recorded numerous CDs, as both a solo artist and band member.  But it was while living in Japan for five years, working at a kindergarten, that John developed an interest in kids’ music.  Through his experiences developing music programs for toddlers, he wrote and arranged songs for several children’s CDs, reflecting his wide variety of influences.  One impressed parent described his music as sounding like ‘if Joe Strummer joined The Wiggles’.  The children’s programs spanned a wide variety of formats, including Parent and Child classes, infant daycare classes, ESL classes for elementary school students and more; all with a strong and popular musical component. There are not many musicians who have to pause in the middle of a set to change a diaper, but John is proud to have been one.
