Alana Kurtis, originally from Ottawa, moved to Los Angeles to study at the California Institute of the Arts where she received a Bachelor of Music in 2000. Although her primary focus was classical, Alana also excelled in Jazz, Salsa and East Indian music. Alana was also the co-producer of the 3rd and 4th annual CalArts Women's CD; an eclectic compilation celebrating the talent and diversity of female performer/composers attending CalArts. While attending university, Alana also spent much of her time songwriting, recording and performing her original songs around various venues in LA.Also during her time in California, Alana was involved in a program called Community Art Partnership where she taught Latin jazz to inner-city high school students. Alana also spent several summers back in Canada teaching private voice lessons as well as teaching music to children at the prestigious 'Ottawa School of Speech and Drama'.
Now based in Toronto, she continues to perform with her band and has just released her debut CD entitled "Wiser".Rainbow Songs is thrilled to have Alana as part of our dynamic roster of teachers.
